Featured Scholar:  Darione Maxie

Darione Maxie graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associates in Art degree from Hinds Community College - Utica Campus, May 2016.

Darione Maxie, 2014 graduate of Hinds Agricultural High School was one of the first five students to be awarded the Frank Crump, Jr. Next Generation Scholarship. Darione used his scholarship award to help pay for tuition at Hinds Community College (HCC). It's been almost three years since we spoke with Darione, so you can image how pleased we were to hear from him over winter break. Darione shared highlights and photos from his experiences over the past two and a half years.

During his two years at Hinds, Darione continued to be an academic standout. He was a HCC President's Scholar and was named Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges. Nominations for Who's Who come directly from college faculty based on GPA, participation and leadership in school organization and extracurricular activities, community involvement and future leadership ability and/or potential.

Darione was one of 21 STEM students from Hinds Community College Utica Campus who attended the 4th USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C., hosted by Lockheed Martin to advance STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Over 350,000 attendees celebrated science at the Festival and Expo.

Darione was voted Mr. Hinds Community College, Utica Campus, and spoke at the heritage ceremony on founder's day. Darione graduated magna cum laude with an Associate in Arts, conferred on students who complete requirements for graduation in programs designed for transfer from Hinds Community College to senior colleges and universities.

Darione Maxie is now enrolled at Jackson State University, majoring in Industrial Technology. He ended his first semester in December 2016 with a 4.0 GPA.

Congratulations Darione on your accomplishments and all the best in 2017!
